Desktops, tablets, mobiles, phablets: technology has just wrapped us in itself. It’s almost overwhelming that on any given day, most of us spend almost two hours on an average on the Internet. Such traffic can provide the businesses with huge opportunities to market their products and it be a problem for those who don’t know how to seize this opportunity. With so many available devices on which you can access the Internet, it becomes difficult for entrepreneurs to choose the medium on which they want to market their website. And what’s worse, some entrepreneurs aren't even aware of all the options available out there. They just end up opening a website, do a search engine optimization for desktops and stop. What about the 87% of the Internet users that create traffic through their mobile phones instead of desktops? In a world where the ubiquity of technology seems to be the only constant, businesses need to exposure to all the options available and choose the best for them.

Among all the other options, responsive web design is the most cost effective and easiest to maintain. Responsive websites adapt themselves to the resolution of the screen of the equipment you are using to access the site at that moment, whether a desktop or a mobile device. The coding embedded in the website causes the website to adjust its navigation bar, font, resolution and everything else to fit in the screen size. Designing a responsive website can be as tricky as designing a normal website. Consider these pointers before committing to a web design.

Flexibility is the Key
Your responsive web design is all about flexibility. For instance, if I fix my navigation bar so that all the options are supposed to appear in one line, that configuration will prove a hassle for a person navigating on their phone's small screen. The website won’t be user friendly, attractive or responsive. Therefore, the content's fluidity creates seamless navigation.

Is your website equipment-friendly?
While designing a responsive website, you need select design cues that make the site mobile and tablet friendly. Can users easily see and tap the buttons, drop-downs, and menus? Is the font easy to read on a small screen? Do the colors contrast so users can see the text and buttons easily? Is the screen design streamlined with the most important options placed prominently? If not, then it’s not as responsive as it should be. To attract maximum traffic on your site, making the layout equipment-friendly is important.

Don’t burden yourself with too much coding
Just because your website is responsive to all media does not mean you need a specific set of coding for each medium. It just means that your coding should be so flexible that your website seamlessly adapts to the resolution of the device it is being opened on. You can also minimize your coding by removing unnecessary characters from your source code without changing its functionality to optimize website performance. Enabling Gzip compression is also another method.

Prioritize your content
Of course, flexibility of coding is important, but you should never overlook prioritizing content, either. Your content is the key that attracts the customers to your website through different media. While designing a responsive website, make sure you prioritize the content that you want to be highlighted in all the devices. That may be your logo or some options of the navigation bar. Choose the content you think is the most important and highlight it properly.

Focus on User Interface (UI)
UI is basically what the user experiences when he opens your website. There may be a lot of coding behind it, but it’s the final picture that matters. Make sure that your website has an interesting UI which is also user-friendly. You want to engage your customers with your company's primary message so that they either make a purchase decision right then or they return when they need your product or service. Attract site users with web site features such as color coordination, appropriate font sizes and shapes and thoughtfully-chosen pictures and videos.

Responsive web designs are all about flexibility, content and user interface. They are the new way forward and definitely easier and cheaper than other options available in the market.
